Dragon Head Complete!

Well, I finally finished my dragon's head...He doesn't have a face yet, but lets take one thing at a time.
 

The head takes on a nice round shape with a short cute snout and puffy cheeks. I'm extremely proud of those cheeks. Partially because they were such a pain to figure out! All in all, it took me about 3 days to figure out exactly how shape everything and get it placed on the head in the right spot (I'm determined to make the design seamless). There's also a small hole in the bottom where I'll be connecting the neck with sc, and then continuing onto the body :)

Build a Better Blog Challenge

I was browsing around Tip Junkie this morning and found this awesome post Ways to Improve your Blog--Challenge.

Sunday Sketches

I ended up revamping the baby dragon design a bit from my last post.

Once I actually started forming the amigurumi, it just wasn't turning out much like I had imagined.

So, I'm trying a slightly different approach for a better look, as well as shaping the ami a bit easier :)

Dragon Baby Design

Well here he is! A quick sketch of the first amigurumi I'm going to design.
I love his huge cheeks and bobble toes :P I plan on making him an "all in one" ami with no sewing of parts together. I'm debating whether to crochet the horns or to use Polymer clay (an idea I got from Kathleen AKA slothmuffin of A Surprise Every Time).

FO Friday #2/Game Plan

But at least I can show you my latest addition to the Iris Square swap over at The Vanna's Choice Fan Club on Ravelry (yay for scanners!). This is a larger version of the Sunburst Granny Square by Priscilla Hewitt.

Game Plan

Thanks to some wonderful readers, helpful desingers, and experienced bloggers, I think I've finally got a game plan for my new etsy shop and partnered blog.

 What I'll be selling:

Amigurumi of all different types, but I'll be starting out with dragons designed by ItsyBitsySpider. Each color dragon will have it's own name, birthday and short description of it's personality or favorite things to do (kindda like beanie babies). I'm also contemplating giving each a personalized adoption certificate when they're purchased.

I could also do series of these: Like starting out making only 10 red dragons named Bob. Each could be numbered and if the Bob dragon is requested after the initial 10 are sold, then there could be second editions.

What I'll be blogging about:

Each dragon will have it's own profile page.

Care/Cleaning instructions for your new amigurumi.

Guest posts by other plush artists.

Upcoming designs.

Help with finding my Niche

So as some of you may know, I've been interested in selling amigurumi for awhile now. I'm working on coming up with my own patterns, but in the meantime, I've found some excellent designers that don't mind you selling items made from their patterns.

I'm also looking into the best ways to market my business. This includes a good bit of social networking and creating a blog that your target audience would love to read.

This is where I could really use some input and advice from all of you lovely people :)

First, I need to find my niche. Find my target audience. What kind of people buy amigurumi (the finished toys, not the patterns)? What other things are those same people interested in that I could blog about?

I don’t really want to blog about crocheting technique or the process of making the toys because I don’t think too much of my targeted audience crochets (why would a crocheter buy a toy when they could make one themselves)?

I’d love to hear any ideas you may have or any resources you’d like to share.

FO Friday #1

I've been super busy lately. This is what I've been up to :

I joined The Vanna's Choice Fan Club on Ravelry and immediately jumped into a 4 month Iris themed granny square swap! Everyone got the exact same yarn (colors inspired by irises) so that all the squares will match.

Irises hold a special place in my heart. My grandparents have been apart of the Mardi Gras Krewe of Iris ever since I could remember and there house has always been filled with irises, real and decorative. So when I see an iris, I always think of my grandparents.

Here are some of my squares so far:

The 3-D Iris Squares were made by following Sandy Meeks's pattern and then sewn onto a Diagonal Box Stitch Square. The other squares, from right to left/top to bottomare: Tricolor Square, Fisherman's Ring, and Carousel Square. 6 squares down, 14 to go... :P

 I also just tested out Bodecia Arietty's Monkey Toy Pattern. He came out so cute! He has found a happy home with my sister :)














On other fronts, I've just been invited to sell at my first craft show! I'm so excited!! Now I just need to get busy making some cuteys (I'm thinking I'll mainly sell amigurumi). I'm on the lookout for patterns to use where the designer doesn't mind me selling the finished toy, so let me know of any cute or unique ones that you know of. So far, I know I'm going to make K4TT's Pegasus. Wish me luck!
